Discover The Best Litter Types For Your Cat
Hygiene is an important issue, not just for us but for our pets too. The type of litter you use for your cat can be varied and can have a different impact on your cat. Try to remember that cats are very hygienic by nature, so your litter box must be kept clean at all times if you want a happy kitty. Knowing the importance of kitty litter we tested out (via our cats of course) some of the best products out there, these are our thoughts…
What to look for:
The smell: You might like when the litter has a specific smell but that isn’t always the case with your cat. Ideally the litter should be odorless. Some cats don’t mind an added smell, so you should look out for that.
The texture: It should not be sticky. One that clumps works well, for erm… Obvious reasons, best if after they do their business nothing sticks to their legs after they leave the litter box.
Amount: You can’t go wrong with bulk buys on this. You don’t want to face a dirty litter box with no cat litter to replace it. Stock up.
1. Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter
Precious Cat definitely did the research and knows what’s best for cats. Therefore, this litter is hard clumping, dust free, hypo-allergenic and has superior odor control. That is a definition of a perfect cat litter.
- Hard clumping
- Clumps don’t break apart
- Completely dust-free
- Non-tracking granules
- No perfumes, deodorants or chemicals
- The packaging is somewhat inconvenient
Conclusion: After a few years of looking for a perfect cat litter, I’ve finally found it. It works exactly as advertised. I don’t have to vacuum my apartment every day now, plus the cleaning of the litter box has never been easier. Cats seem to love it, too! I only wish it came in a bucket or in a cardboard box.
Quick clumping formula by World’s Best Cat Litter is definitely a great choice for cat owners who prioritize clumping! Plus it’s dust-free, completely natural – corn based and forest scented, which makes it great for odor control.
- Quick clumping
- Dust free
- Light weight
Conclusion: Finally a superior clumping formula I was looking for! No mess, no sticking, no cleaning. My older female loved this litter instantly, she didn’t even mind the subtle smell. Plus it’s completely natural and flushable! Incredibly convenient all together.
Cat’s Pride comes up third on the list with its lightweight, low-dust cat litter. The formula is dye and fragrance-free which is perfectly suitable for cats who are allergic or sensitive, but at the same time the litter has strong odor control. This cat litter is packed in a fifteen pound jug.
- Extremely light weight
- No fragrance, absorbs odors instantly
- Completely dust free
- The plastic jug is easy to handle
- Doesn’t always clump perfectly
Conclusion: Overall, this cat litter is pretty high in my list. I have to admit that I was initially attracted by the amazing packaging, since the plastic container is a great invention! Easy to handle, pour, and carry. The odorless, dust-free litter does the job well, the only issue being that it doesn’t clump well all the time. Sometimes the clumps are hard and easy to remove from the litter box, yet they crumble on other occassions.
Arm & Hammer brought out this amazing cat litter with one of the strongest clumping, crumble-free, low dust formulas out there. Micro-Granules form a tight grip around the cat’s odors when activated by moisture, making this litter an incredibly efficient smell eliminator.
- Clumps well, doesn’t crumble
- Low dust
- Has a light, pleasant smell and strong odor control
- Clumps too well for its own good
- Sometimes leaves tracks
Conclusion: This is probably the hero of cat litter clumping, probably the strongest non-crumbling litter out there. However, the process of clumping requires big amounts of litter and you end up using up the entire package very quickly. Aside of this, and the occasional tracking, this product is well worth its price.
Feline Fine is dedicated to providing you with natural odor control and with no added fragrances. They use environmentally conscious chemical-free formula that neutralizes odor naturally leaving your house smelling fresh and clean. Feline Pine Cat Litter is highly absorbent with a special dust-free non-tracking formula. The price/quality ratio seems fair, making this a fine choice for your cat.
- No odor – excellent odor control
- Zero chemicals or artificial fragrances
- Produces zero dust
- Turns into sawdust after it is urinated on – making it easy for cats to dig in
- Lasts a really long time before you need to change it
- Doesn’t cover poop well when it is in granule form
- Strong smell of pine – takes some time to get use to
Conclusion: I’ve decided to try Feline Pine to avoid the chemicals and dusting I had with other cat litters. So far it’s been great. While it may take a while to get your cats to switch to the pine, it is well worth it for the decrease in smell. It absorbs the urine smell immediately and does not get kicked out of the litter box as much as standard cat litter. With this litter, the clean-up, though a bit different, is far less messy and you don’t have to inhale any old nasty dust. Overall, I definitely like this product especially since it’s chemical free and doesn’t produce any dust. It’s a must buy for anyone with allergies.
Easy to carry, easy to store and easy to use, Tidy cats is half the weight with the same amount as any leading clumping litter. With its strong odor-neutralizing formula it provides around the lock and long lasting odor control
- Made with clay materials
Conclusion: My cat liked this cat litter, took to it…Immediately let’s say. The fact that it’s lightweight is a huge plus for me because I don’t have to break my back hauling it from the pantry every time I need to change it. This of course comes at a price as it’s not exactly low dust sometimes I do have to clean my cats paws after he does his business. But you get a good deal for the price.
