What to look for:
Size: Litter boxes are made in variety of sizes – from small boxes you can tuck into a corner to really large boxes. However, most cat owners will agree on one thing: the larger the box the better.
Hoods: Hooded boxes are perfect for accidental spread of waste and urine. They also help control the odor and provide your cat with some privacy.
Cleaning: The best litter boxes are those with built-in cleaning mechanisms. Whether they are manual or automatic, they make waste removal easier and extend the life of litter.
Litter: Make sure you use new varieties of litter that are 100% biodegradable. They will absorb odor perfectly, they’ll be easier on your pet’s paws, won’t stick to the litter box and they are safe for cats and humans.

Conclusion: I own 3 cats and I’ve always wanted a big litter box, which could be used by all three of them. This was a perfect buy! All of them can fit inside at the same time, plus it’s cheaper than most of litter boxes! There is no odor coming out of the box, I just had to protect the filters with sticky tape, because one cat loved scratching them. Fortunately, you can buy those filters separately!
Omega Paw Self-Cleaning litter box uses no electricity or filters, yet manages to clean the litter box without scooping. Patented grill separates clean litter from waste, plus the litter box itself prevents dust and odors to come out. The size of this litter box makes it perfect for big or multiple cats.
- No electricity or filters
- Pullout tray for quick and easy disposal
- Great for big cats or multi-cat households
- Dust and odor control
- Works with clumping litter only
- Difficult to clean
Conclusion: When you have 2 big cats, you get tired of scooping and scraping. I wanted to buy an automatic litter box, but I’m glad I went with this one! It is much cheaper and easer to use. I just roll it around and it’s ready for next use. I only wish it was easier to disassemble the box, because once in awhile, you’ll want to clean it anyway.
Cleaning the litter box is always a chore, but with the IRIS Open top Litter Pan with shield, things get a little easier as the open top offers an easy access to litter and the shield around it protects from litter spray. With its navy blue color this litter box can blend into any home with ease.
- Open top provides easy cleaning access
- Scoop included
- Tall sides keep from litter spillage
- Scooper ineffective with smaller clumps
- Kinda small in size
Conclusion: My smaller cats loved this but my older male (17poundish) had to struggle, he adapted but I could tell he didn’t enjoy it as much as the older litter box (shield less). My smaller cats had no problems though and the transition worked out just fine.
This Nature’s Miracle litter box comes with a pretty neat idea of having the walls of the box higher than usual, making sure that the litter stays inside and there is almost no scattering. The design of the litter box is otherwise very minimalistic, but it pretty much does what it’s supposed to do!
- Litter scattering prevented by high sides of the litter box
- Minimal stickiness
- The box dimensions are actually smaller than described
Conclusion: Overall, this is a pretty decent litter box. The only issue that comes up is if you have a larger cat due to the dimensions of the box being wrong. Smaller cats will have no problem with this, but my Ollie is a rather big fellow and the “high” walls really couldn’t do a good job.
Nature’s Miracle brings out a superb litter box made with advanced plastic technology used to successfully battle odors and bacteria. The entire surface of the box is stick-free which provides you with hassle free cleaning and no litter caking.
- Odor-controlling plastic
- Protection against bacteria
- Zero sticking
- Lid is difficult to put on and off
Conclusion: Everything about this litter box amazed me, except for the lid. It was an adventure to take it off prior to washing due to the clips being kinda hard and stiff. The same goes for putting the lid back on since it is very flexible and it’s difficult to place it correctly on top. Aside of the lid, the litter box does a great job of controlling odors and keeping the litter inside.
Booda Dome Clean Step Litter box features an enclosed dome design to contain a litter scatter and a spray. It has an activated charcoal filter that controls unwanted odor. The hooded top will give your cat the privacy she needs. Its modern design will will be a nice addition in any home.
- Very little litter tracked outside the box
- Easy to clean
- The stair’s surface helps remove the litter from the paws
- The dome is private – perfect for finicky cats
- Difficult to move
- Difficult to put new litter bags in
- Because of the dome, it doesn’t fit as perfectly into corners, so it will take up a bit more room
Conclusion: Finally, a cat box that my big crazy dog can’tt get into! I wasn’t sure my cat would go for it since she can be a bit on the anxious side, so I let her get used to it, and now she gets in and does her thing. It’s very easy for cats to get in and out, it doesn’t spill cat litter the way others do, and even older cats will find it more accommodating than most cat-boxes.Watch out tho this Petmate Dome is roomy, so if you’re cramped for space it may not work for you.
This unique and innovative litter box is ideal for multiple cat households. It has no electricity or filter and it self cleans easily by rolling to the right and back again. It contains odor, controls dust and collects waste in the pullout scoop for easy disposal.
- Very affordable
- Easy to clean
- Easy to assemble
- No scooping
- It works
- Could have better clips/latches to hold the lid on
- Switching out the litter might be a pain – it would be nice to have a fill window that you could open on the top of the box to make adding litter from the top easier than adding it from the side opening
Conclusion: I have two cats and work full time and constantly cleaning their litter box wasn’t the funnest chore on my list. It reduces odor, and I save money on litter because it stays in the box despite the greatest efforts of my felines to toss it out. And there is no more shoveling through nasty, stinky litter. Easy. Reliable. Inexpensive. What more could you ask for?
